The end of the Whole Foods partnership won’t be a catastrophic loss for Instacart — Recode reports that it’s expected to reduce Instacart’s revenue by less than 5 percent. About 75 percent of the company’s 1,415 in-store shoppers across 76 Whole Foods locations will be transferred to other retailers in their area. For the other 25 percent employees who won’t be able to be placed in new roles, they’ll receive three-month separation packages in addition to tenure-based compensation. The first group of Whole Foods couriers will be pulled from stores February 10th, 2019.
Costco Wholesale Group had the biggest decline on the index, falling 8.59 percent after reporting earnings this morning. The retailer beat revenue estimates but missed on earnings by a penny. It blamed increased competition from the likes of Walmart and Amazon.com -- particularly in the grocery business -- for shrinking margins. The stock is still up 11 percent for the year.
And yet, the Amazon’s Choice badge tries to impose a sense of editorial order—it guides you from a sprawling list of search results to something that was picked, cutting out the decision fatigue of shopping, making sure you purchase something instead of getting overwhelmed and wandering away without spending money. It seems more authoritative than a Best-seller or Amazon Charts badge—both of which are earned based on more straightforward numbers. Choose products carefully. Don't promote something you wouldn't buy or don't like just to make money. It will backfire and cause you to lose credibility with your website visitors. After all, it’s hard to make a solid income off of promoting $1-5 products, since the commission on Amazon is so low. Items that have a higher price point, like high end appliances, furniture, BBQs, blenders and juicers, or bikes can net you over $50 a sale at least.

The tension between Instacart and Amazon has been brewing since the acquisition. Since I do not live in the U.S., I would have to get paid by check or gift certificate. Obviously only getting paid in gift certificates isn’t that great, so that leaves the check. However, checks are not used here in Sweden at all basically, so cashing one comes with huge fees, I think maybe 30-40USD for a check. So my question is, can you choose to “save up” the money you make at Amazon and only get a check sent when you want to, or is it automatically sent at certain amount? I know Adsense has/had a feature that let you “block” payments until you released them. If Amazon has a feature like that, it’d make the check-fee less of a problem.
